Edit Office files, with AI when needed
OfficeDex brings documents, spreadsheets and presentations into one desktop workspace. It is designed for people who want to work directly in familiar Office file formats, then optionally ask an AI assistant to help with a draft or a focused revision. Registration and sign-in are required; manual editing is free.
What you can edit for free
The Editor supports manual work with DOCX, XLSX and PPTX files. That can mean correcting a paragraph in a report, updating an input in a workbook, or changing a presentation title. You do not need to submit an AI request for an ordinary manual edit.
Keep a copy of your original document, especially when trying a new editor. Shared file extensions do not guarantee identical fonts, page breaks, formulas or slide layouts. Advanced workbook features, macros and external connections need their own compatibility checks. OfficeDex should not be assumed to reproduce every Microsoft Office feature.
Optional help with drafts and revisions
The Agent workspace offers a separate, conversational route for drafting and revising content. Describe the outcome you need, provide relevant reference material and review the generated document or proposed change. Follow-up instructions and direct edits can be combined as you refine the work.
AI usage is not included simply because the Editor is free. The publisher's hosted service uses Credits, while a supported provider you configure may charge for API access. A local model uses your own computing resources. Read the connection and usage guide before choosing a setup; no unlimited AI allowance is assumed here.
Local files and selected AI services
Workspace files are stored locally. However, prompts and relevant document context may be sent to the AI service selected for a task. Local file storage is not a blanket promise of offline operation or zero external processing. Start with non-sensitive material and check the provider's terms before using confidential documents.
Desktop availability and licensing
Official desktop packages are available for Windows x64 and for Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. The Windows release includes a per-user installer and a complete portable ZIP; do not extract only the application executable from that ZIP. The publisher documents WebView2 as a Windows requirement. Follow the installation guide and select the package for your computer.
The current desktop client is offered under GPL-3.0-only, with source and notices in the official repository. The publisher has announced a planned commercial policy for future releases, but states that existing GPL releases retain their accompanying license. Review the license supplied with the version you download. Our description is based on publisher documentation; we have not run the application.

Official downloads and current licensing
Use the official download page and installation guide. The current release is linked from the publisher repository. We respect the publisher's request for official links rather than an installer mirror. The accompanying GPL licence and any future-release policy should be read separately.
