Inside PuppyOne

Keep project files and agent changes together
PuppyOne combines a file editor, local project folders, Git history, and a terminal-oriented AI workflow. It is intended for people who want to inspect the same files their agents are working on, rather than manage a separate collection of pasted prompts and downloaded copies. The desktop application is available for Windows x64 and Apple Silicon Macs. Its source code is published under Apache-2.0.
Work on files already on your computer
A project can start with a local folder. The editor supports text and structured formats such as Markdown, JSON, CSV, HTML, and code, alongside previews for document and media formats. Built-in Git tools let you inspect differences and restore earlier versions. An integrated terminal can work with file-based agents such as Claude Code and Codex. This does not include those providers' subscriptions, credentials, or model usage costs.
Cloud hosting is optional
Local editing and optional hosted collaboration are different parts of the product. Publishing a project to PuppyOne Cloud makes files available remotely for connected agents and teammates. Before sharing, check which files are included, who has access, and which permissions each agent receives. A local-first design is not a promise that every connected model or cloud feature processes data only on your device.
The hosted Free plan has limits: one workspace member, one project, three agent access points, 2 GB of storage, and 30-day version history on the current pricing page. Paid cloud tiers expand capacity and collaboration. The open-source Community Edition can also be self-hosted, but maintaining that infrastructure is a separate responsibility.
Choose the appropriate release
The official download page and GitHub release provide separate desktop packages. The Windows release notes explicitly identify an unsigned x64 installer; macOS release notes describe a signed and notarized Apple Silicon build. Follow the publisher's platform requirements rather than assuming that an Intel Mac or Linux desktop package is available.
The source README describes basic product analytics for eligible stable builds and a switch in Settings → Privacy. Review that setting, cloud terms, and your agent provider's policies before using confidential files. Freeware Catalog links to the publisher's downloads and does not claim that the application or an external AI service has been independently security-audited.
- Best for
- Reviewing local project files and Git changes while working with file-based AI agents.
- Good to know
- Windows x64 and Apple Silicon Mac. Windows installer unsigned. Cloud plans have limits; connected AI providers may charge separately.
Is open source the same as unlimited cloud access?
No. The source repository is Apache-2.0, while the hosted service has separate plans and capacity limits. Check the pricing page when deciding between local editing, hosted collaboration, and self-hosting.
What should I check before connecting an agent?
Start with a non-sensitive project, confirm the folder and permissions, and review changes before committing them. External agent subscriptions and model calls are separate from installing PuppyOne.
