Inside Roblox
1 / 3Animal Hospital Carnival in Roblox — official Windows Store experience preview
Roblox download for Windows and Mac
Roblox is a platform for online experiences created by its community. The desktop player is the software you install to join those experiences; it is not a single game with one fixed set of rules. A racing game, a role-playing world, and a social experience can feel very different even though they run through the same Roblox account and player.
Player and Studio are different tools
Choose Roblox Player if your goal is to play. Roblox Studio is the separate creation environment for building experiences. Downloading Studio is not a prerequisite for joining a game, and a guide about the player should not promise the development tools as part of the same installation.
Free download does not mean every item is free
The client can be downloaded without a purchase, but experiences may offer paid access, virtual items, or other purchases using Robux. Look at the specific experience and account settings before spending. For a younger player, review Roblox's parental controls and communication settings before the first session rather than assuming the whole platform has the same audience or content.
Use the current Windows app
Roblox's official Windows download page links to the current Microsoft Store app, named Roblox - Windows. Roblox support distinguishes this blue-icon app from its older Store version. Follow the official route instead of reinstalling an obsolete app from an old tutorial. A Store installation can also involve linking an Xbox profile; Roblox explains that process in its support documentation.
Check compatibility before installing
Roblox lists supported desktop systems and hardware in its computer requirements. Linux is not an officially supported desktop platform. An internet connection is part of the normal player workflow. We link to the publisher's download page so you can obtain the appropriate client for a supported computer. The gallery contains official previews of individual Roblox experiences, not a guarantee that every experience has the same appearance or features.
- Best for
- Playing community-created online experiences with an existing Roblox account on a supported Windows PC or Mac.
- Good to know
- Robux and optional purchases cost money. Review parental controls, experience suitability, and the current official desktop requirements.
Install the Roblox desktop player
- Open the official Roblox download page and choose the desktop option for your computer.
- On Windows, follow the current Roblox - Windows Microsoft Store listing linked by Roblox. On Mac, follow the publisher's player installation steps.
- Complete installation, then sign in with your Roblox account. Keep account credentials on Roblox's own sign-in screens.
- Choose an experience and review any age, access, or purchase information before joining.

Questions before downloading
Is Roblox Player the same as Roblox Studio?
No. The player runs experiences, while Studio is used to create them. Install the tool that matches your purpose.
Does my progress belong to the installation?
Roblox explains that progress, friends, inventory, and Robux are tied to the Roblox account. Signing into the correct account matters when moving to the current Windows app.
Can I download Roblox for Linux?
Roblox does not list Linux as an officially supported desktop system. This page does not provide an unofficial compatibility workaround or label one as an official build.
Is every Roblox game free?
No. The client is free to download, but an experience can include purchases. Check the experience details and account purchase controls.
More PC gaming software
See Steam for a different PC game-store and library model, or browse the games catalogue. Free clients and free games are deliberately described separately.
